South America & Antarctica

Review for a South America Cruise on Seabourn Quest

The first leg of this journey was from Lima, Peru to Santiago, Chile. This first part was interesting but the protests, strikes, and safety concerns made some of the ports feel uninviting. We were onboard for Antarctica mainly and this cruise did not disappoint. Antarctica is one of the most spectacular places on the planet and to be able to kayak, walk on sea ice, photography wildlife, and ...

Went to join the ship at Lima Peru, taking a taxi to the port, we were told that we would have to wait for 2 hours outside the port area as there was no terminal, so we were at the side of the road in a very unpleasant dock area, we were joined by others who were shocked at our treatment, a disabled lady who couldn't stand got a chair from a good samaritan dock worker. Eventually after an ...

I thoroughly enjoyed my cruise in South America. The food was excellent and there were an abundance of choices on the dining menus. The service was excellent and I ate all meals in the dining room, except two times. The ship had various special nights in the buffet and there were nice with a great quality selection of seafood. I especially liked the caviar breakfast. The enrichment ...

We booked this cruise very late due to domestic circumstances and got a good deal as a consequence. The down side however was the available business class flights were limited. Our agent booked our outbound flight to Lima via Miami with a 2 hour 5 mins connection time and we thought this would be OK. Then we discovered that we would have to go through US immigration and possibly even collect our ...

Completing the Trip

Review for a South America Cruise on Volendam

Finishing the Trip – Lima to San Diego – February 15 to March 4 , 2019 Why this cruise? We had sailed from San Diego to Callao/Lima 5 years ago on the “old” Statendam and wanted to do the return trip. This time we would be on Volendam, and there were fewer port stops and more sea days, but we were looking for a relaxing experience which we found. Holland America is not our most favorite ...

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. We had a choice of Regent or their sister line, Oceania for the same itinerary. We decided to give Regent a try and we were very happy we did. We had sailed Oceania before and we found Regent and Oceania comparable in most ways. We also found the cost to be about the same when you add the things that are included on Regent to similar things at extra ...

We chose this cruise for two reasons. One- the itinerary, we always wanted to cruise the Chilean fiords and Cape Horn, and two we were willing to pay the premium for Business Class air and fee free excursions and amenities etc. We expected exceptional service and support. The service by staff was very good and many of the excursions were outstanding. But the ship was tired. We had elevator ...

We chose this cruise for its itinerary. But it turned out to be disaster. Ship came back from Ushuaia and Machu Pichu infected with GI problems and influenza. Passengers were quarantined in their cabins and ship was supposingly being fully disinfected. Embarkation was delayed due to disinfecting procedures. All crew was working 2 extra hours a day to clean the ship. Unfortunately the cleaning ...

We've cruised many different lines and this was the absolute worse experience. Staff were unfriendly and had difficulty understanding English. The food was good but not the culinary experience we were expecting. We were under a "code red" during our first week and we couldn't do anything for ourselves including using salt and pepper on the table. Wine stewards and servers took forever to come ...
