we chose this ship for the varied itnerary, and it travels r/t port everglades. we haven't been on a ship this small since the ncl starward in 1979. we have sailed many other cruise lines, but HAL gets first look due to the amazing crew. an 11:00 pm departure allowed for a seamless embakation. our balcony cabin was adequate and functional(most of the time). tired furniture and 1980 style tv not ...

I am writing this review to let others know what actually happened to "me" alone, on the Trans-Atlantic Crossing of Holland America's "Oosterdam". I took Holland America this time, (my 23rd Tans-Atlantic) because my usual line, "Celebrity", had become less than acceptable. I must say that Celebrity gives me tremendous "Frequent Cruiser Benefits". Much, much , much better than Holland America! ...

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: My cruising history - this was my 16th cruise (1-Carnival/1-Celebrity/3-Norwegian/11-Royal Caribbean). I decided to try HAL because I was looking for a little "step up" from RCL for things like service, food, entertainment, etc. I believe I have found it. My biggest concern was that I've always heard that HAL tends to be a older crowd (I've heard it referred to as the ...

Our first cruise was a 15 day Transatlantic to Rome. We then stayed on another 10 days on the same ship in the same cabin.. We do a lot of cruising and have plenty of experience on Royal Caribbean ships. Major complaint was that they removed transatlantic satellite television programming. They claim it was too intermittent and snowy, to us intermittent service is better than no service. Had to ...

Allure of the Seas was not so alluring on its first transatlantic cruise

Traveling with my wife on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas transatlantic crossing of April 19 - May 1, 2015 was our 11th cruise in eight years, on four different lines. Having done one cruise each on Norwegian and Celebrity, our remaining experience is about evenly split between Princess and Royal Caribbean. This was our second Atlantic crossing, having done the trip with the Royal Princess ...

We took the TA on 4/8/15 after having been on 2 other HAL ships that definitely had staff issues and maintenance problems. We figured we'd give HAL one more chance and we are glad we did! The Nieuw Amsterdam was great! I have no complaints, but I do have some compliments. We ate in the MDR every night on the Open Seating plan. We never had to wait for a table once in the 2 weeks. The service ...

4* Mariner. Did annual TA on Nieuw Amsterdam. Ship was to have come out of dry dock. We embarked in Fort Lauderdale and quickly found out "dry dock" was to continue as we crossed the Atlantic. New carpet in dining areas laid, but didn't look vacuumed. Major Internet and TV upgrades led to outages and on board dry dock employees continuing their trade. The issues should be taken care of in ...

Let me preface my remarks by saying we have taken one to two cruises per year from 2006 to the present. We’ve been on at least a dozen different ships and NEVER experienced anything like this. I booked fifty (50) nights on the Nieuw Amsterdam (April 8 thru May 28) based on the reputation they have enjoyed through the years. I can not begin to tell you how disappointed we are with Holland ...

My husband and I (early 30's) traveled with my mother and brother. This was our 3rd Celebrity cruise and 6th cruise overall. It was an excellent experience. We stayed at the Embassy Suites on 17th Ave the night before. Good location, but not the best hotel for the high price. I wouldn't recommend it. Check-in for the cruise was very quick. We arrived around 11:15 and walked directly onto the ship. ...

We sailed on a back to back cruise on the Quest leaving out of Fort Lauderdale for Europe. We had sailed on the Quest nice before a year earlier. With few exceptions we found the ship and staff some of the best we've ever experienced. We always marvel at the personal service and name recognition. How do they do it? We were confidentially told that the staff is quizzed on name recognition ...
