While on a Western Caribbean cruise, travelers may find themselves spending a day in Porto Torres. This port of Sardinia offers cruisers to Italy a gateway to beaches and historic sites. Cruisers will have no trouble finding an activity in this Italian port city.
In the days of the Roman Empire, Porto Torres was an important port in Northern Sardinia, though these days it's best known as the location of a petrochemical plant. However, history buffs might like to check out the Basilica di San Gavino and other relics of Rome's heyday. The surrounding beaches and nature reserve are also worth a visit.
