Cruises to Malacca

Malacca (Photo:Adli Wook/Shutterstock)

About Malacca

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Malacca charms with colorful historical buildings, Buddhist temples, churches and mosques. To best grasp its full flavor, explore this city two ways -- by foot and by trishaw. Don't miss the 16th-century A'Famosa Fort, built by the Portuguese, and Melaka Sultanate Palace, a fascinating reproduction of a sultan's 15th-century home. Save time to stroll Jonker Street Hawker Centre, a fascinating mix of antique stores, souvenir shops and cool cafes. Bargain here and everywhere.

Currency & Best Way to Get Money?

Currency in Malacca is the ringgit. For up-to-date currency exchange rates, visit www.xe.com. ATMs are difficult to find but there is a currency exchanger in port and at banks in town. Credit cards are accepted in bigger stores and malls. The U.S. dollar is generally not accepted, although it's often given to shore excursion guides and trishaw drivers as gratuities.

Language?

Malay is Malacca's official language but English is widely spoken.
