Let me preface this review by saying that I have been on most of the other Holland America ships - and that, until this cruise, Holland America has been my favorite cruise line.
It was an extremely disappointing cruise. The quality of the cruise offered on the Veendam was substantially LOWER than any other Holland America cruise I have ever taken.
I found it hard to believe that the Veendam was a Holland America ship. The ship was badly worn and in very poor condition. Our cruise started late because the ship was over five hours late in getting into port due to mechanical problems. We were late in leaving one of our ports again because of mechanical problems.
Cabin Review
Large Ocean-View Stateroom
The Ocean View cabins on this ship are on the two LOWEST decks.
Our particular cabin was on the lowest passenger deck.
Since the ship is in very poor repair, we continually heard odd sounds coming from the floor below us. There were noises of grinding metal. Sounds of banging and thumping.
At several points in the cruise our cabin window was completely covered by a plywood panel when we were on shore.
