We drove from Tampa to Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday, Feb 9, 2017 to cruise on the Celebrity Equinox on 2/10/17. We stayed at the Rodeway Inn on State Road 84 the night before, where we left our car for the duration of the cruise, and they took us to the port the morning of 10 Feb, and got us when we returned. We took the early shuttle from the motel to the ship and arrived about 9:30 AM. Celebrity opened the doors about 11 AM and we went inside and had to wait about 15 minutes for security to process us. There was a lot of confusion among the Celebrity personnel about who should go where in the terminal. Since we had an Aqua class cabin, and had Elite status, we were told to sit with the Aqua guests, instead of the Elite group. The two women who were directing the passengers had opposing views on who should sit where. We waited for about 30 minutes and these women never did let us board. We noticed that Celebrity starting boarding Suite passengers and then Elite Plus, and the Elite guests. Although we have Elite status, they told us to sit with the Aqua guests. This was totally wrong, so we went to where they were boarding, and finally got onboard. This was the 4th time we have boarded the Equinox at Terminal 18, and it has been total confusion each time. Celebrity certainly needs to get their act together on the boarding process because this confusion has upset a lot of previous passengers, including us.

Once we got onboard, we were given a glass of champagne and things improved from then on! We ate at the buffet for lunch, and it was good as usual. We were able to get to our Aqua class cabin about 1 PM or so. Since we had a lot of onboard credit that you have to use or lose, we decided to book the 3 specialty restaurant package. Our favorite specialty restaurant is Murano; the Dover Sole is fantastic. The steaks in Tuscan Grill are also very good, but I am not sure it is worth the extra price, but the service is great, and it is not crowded. Celebrity has changed this since our last sailing in April 2016. You now have many more options of between one and 10 nights at specialty restaurants. I don't know why anyone would want to dine the entire cruise at specialty restaurants because the food is so good in Blu (for Aqua class) and in the main dining room, as well in Lumanie (for Suite class guests), but I guess there are some rich folks who prefer that.

Most of the passengers were 50+, which suited us fine since we are in that category. This cruise had the fewest number of children that we had ever seen, and this was probably because of the sailing date--most kids were in school. The ones we saw were very well behaved, unlike some other cruises we have been on.

Cabin Review

AquaClass 2

Typical Aqua class cabin, which was nice; plenty of storage, nice bathroom. We thought it was pretty small since we had a suite on the Equinox last year. Once you get spoiled with a 300 square foot suite, it is difficult to go back!
